We at Wilderness Trail Off-Road Park are happy to announce that our 2013 Event Schedule is up! Check it out below:
First up is our Bluegrass On The Mountain Festival on Saturday, May 18th. If you love the sweet sound of bluegrass, the thrill and excitement of trail riding, the feel of a springtime breeze in Appalachia, and the sight of a breath-taking mountain backdrop…you can’t miss this one. It will be headlined by bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs with more acts to be announced soon! Stay tuned for more info! Bring your tent, fishing pole, fourwheeler and come down and spend a great weekend in the mountains with us.
Next up will be the Coal Country Off-Road Festival on the weekend of September 27-29. The event will feature a nationally acclaimed music act, vendor area, ATV events, and the famous Haunted Forest ATV Trail. We moved this event up three weeks because of the better chance for warmer weather. Last year, we had some very cold and very wet weather move in just a day after the event ended. To increase our odds for better weather we decided to move the event to the last weekend of September. We hope everyone will come and check out what we believe to be one of the premier off-road events in the country! Stay tuned for more info!
There are better versions of the basic maps under the MAPS link. We only have the three new trails added so far, but as we continue trail building in 2013, there will be more updated maps as the project progresses.
These were uploaded so that the trail numbers and writing are more legible.
Many times, the businesses here that carry maps run out because they are in such high demand. We highly recommend that you print your own maps and bring them to the park to make it easier to find your way around.
If you have a smart phone, you can also access the MAPS link and save the images to your phone, so you can have a copy on there as well.
Hey everyone! Looks like we have a great weekend coming up…Tomorrow is projected at 73 degrees and mostly sunny (only slight chance of a shower). Sunday looking about the same with a little more chance or a brief shower.
This is January? Wow.
Here in southeast Kentucky its completely common to have somewhat mild winters up until February and early March, but this weekend is a lot warmer than usual. Come out and enjoy the spring like weather while it lasts!
Also, we have had several questions about our event schedule for 2013. Don’t worry, we will have some big updates very soon!
Video below is some scenes of the 90 miler that we did earlier this year…
The weather is still looking great at 62 and sunny. But remember we’ll be leaving in the morning and getting back after dark on the 90 miler. The low is around 40 so have warmer clothes that you can peel off if needed. Just a heads up!
Also, one general rule of thumb when riding in a larger group is when you come to a trail intersection, make sure the person behind you is within sight. This ensures no one gets lost or left behind. Our club has never left anyone in the woods or lost anyone because we usually tell people this before every ride.
For those going on the 90 miler this Saturday…since there are some technical spots in it and its a long ride…please refrain from bringing children or inexperienced riders on this one. Please bring extra gas and food if you can (there is a gas station but it only has one pump and the wait can get pretty long).
The 40 miler that is meeting at Wal-Mart in Middlesboro at 8:30 AM should be more kid/new rider friendly. Also, since its a long ride through the middle of nowhere, please make sure your machines are in good working condition. Doing a little prep and doing a quick machine look over can save you from a breakdown a lot of times.
Thanks and see everyone Saturday at 9 AM at Big Lots/Goodys parking lot on Hwy 25E in Middlesboro at 9 AM for the 90 miler, or a 8:30 AM in the Middlesboro Wal-Mart which is also on Hwy 25E. Let’s ride!
Don’t forget…two different off-park rides this upcoming Saturday, December 1st!
We have a 90 miler that is a moderate/challenging ride that will meet in the Goody’s/Big Lots Parking lot in Middlesboro at 9 AM. There is a gas and food stop but we HIGHLY recommend people bring their own snacks and extra gas just in case. This is at least a 9 hour ride, maybe more.
We also have a 40-50 mile easy/moderate level ride that will meet at Wal-Mart in Middlesboro at 8:30 AM. This ride will be back by early evening. No gas stops on this one…Bring food and extra gas if you will need it.
If you’ve never done an off-park ride, you can’t go wrong with either one of these! These may be our last guided rides for 2012 so mark your calendars!
Hey folks, wanted to remind everyone that there will be NO leisure riding on the park from November 10th til November 19th. This is deer rifle season and there will be hunters on the park. For safety reasons and out of respect of those who deer hunt, please do not ride on the park during this time frame. Thanks so much and not to worry, the riding is great there all year round! Not uncommon to have days up through late January that get into the 50s and sometimes even 60s.
Colt Ford tickets are no longer available to purchase online. If you have purchased your Colt Ford tickets you will be able to pick them up Saturday October 20th from 10am to 5pm in the event area at the ticket booth. Tickets will also be on sale at the concert area starting at 6pm.
